Girt By Sea is a simulation of driving between two distant points in Australia (chosen from a list of 6 campuses of SAE Institute) using real road data. If a realistic speed is chosen, the simulation will approximate how long it would really take to drive between these locations (assuming a fixed speed was possible).

Girt was created as an 11 week Masters Degree project based on a brief of "distance". For my take on the brief, I thought of size and scale. Australia is a huge country, but we see so little of it. Girt By Sea tries to convey this by simulating driving from coast to coast (Brisbane to Perth being the initial idea). The idea is that you can start Girt running and leave it go for 40+ hours, checking in to see how far it's reached.

All road data is taken from Open Street Map, so it should be accurate, although I may render it a bit off (lanes and stuff). :)

It's an interesting experiment. While not a game in itself, the technology behind it is inventive. On my end, there was a problem with the rendering, though - there didn't seem to be any roads visible and in the console there was some kind of error message, maybe related to that. Other problem was with resolution, the game didn't fully fit on my screen.
